Travel Plan Benefits

  • providing, where appropriate, practical alternatives to travelling by car;
  • providing pragmatic measures which will benefit people who are travelling to and from the site, to sustain travel by means other than the private vehicle;
  • assisting in the reduction of environmental pollution, again through the sustaining of travel by means other than the private vehicle.

Travel Plan Objectives

  • promote more sustainable transport choices for both people and for those moving freight;
  • promote accessibility to jobs, shopping, leisure facilities and other services by public transport, walking and cycling, and;
  • reduce the need to travel especially by car.
  • to encourage a greater proportion of people to cycle;
  • to sustain and further encourage public transport travel choices;
  • to facilitate opportunities to achieve a healthy lifestyle for those travelling from the site.

The London Plan

  • minimise the need to travel and the growth of journey lengths;
  • integrate development with public transport to ensure that there is a proper fit between development and the capacity of the public transport network to service it over the period of the plan, taking appropriate opportunities to intensify the use of land where current or future transport capacity allows and to connect Londoners to employment opportunities;
  • tackle congestion through levels of restraint of car use appropriate to different parts of London and the provision of alternatives, including the improvement of access on foot and cycling and better and safer facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
